How We Help

Chinese medicine works to restore balance of the various systems of the body. Rather than simply treating a symptom, this approach heals the body from the inside out. It allows the body to utilize its natural healing functions.

PAIN

Sometimes the pain is the result of acute injury. More often the pain is the result of an inability for one’s body to adequately repair. Some of the most common types of pain we regularly successfully treat in the clinic include:

  • Muscle cramps
  • Tendonitis
  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Sports injuries
  • Bone Pain
  • Joint problems
  • Arthritis
  • Lower back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Knee pain
MENTAL HEALTH

The connection between the mind and body in Oriental medicine is undeniable. All physical symptoms affect the mind, and the mind, in turn, affects the body. By using this small nugget of wisdom the path to emotional security and wellbeing can be maintained. Common issues we treat successfully include:

  • Sleep problems
  • Panic attacks
  • PTSD
  • Psychiatric disorders
  • Anxiety & Stress
  • Depression
RESPIRATORY & ALLERGY

Oriental medicine has been effectively treating respiratory and lung conditions for thousands of years, including allergies and asthma. This is achieved by increasing the body’s overall immunity and effectively managing individual symptoms.

DIGESTION

A well-ordered and harmonious digestive system is extremely important towards the promotion of longevity and overall health. It’s also essential for the body’s ability to heal itself. Some common digestive health issues successfully treated by Oriental medicine include:

  • Gastrointestinal and Hepato-biliary issues
  • Epigastric pain

TREATMENT FOR KIDS

We assess each child’s readiness for acupuncture on a case-by-case basis. For children, we typically use an non-invasive technique developed specifically for infants and children called shoni shin. Special acupuncture tools are used to gently move the qi or energy, but no needles are inserted into the skin. This technique can treat a wide variety of conditions including:

  • colic
  • indigestion
  • GERD
  • constipation
  • diarrhea
  • allergies
  • asthma
  • eczema
  • hives
  • bedwetting
  • stuttering

As children become older (over age 8)  the use of needles for acupuncture can be considered but only if the child is ready.  We will always adapt our approach to the specific nature of the child and will never force a child to have a treatment.

Sometimes it may take several visits for the child to become comfortable enough to try it. We can continue to use shoni shin, our Truly Painless Acupuncture or acupressure until they are ready. We may also use herbs, cupping or moxa as part of the treatment. We will do our best to reassure them about the treatment, answer any questions they may have and make sure they feel very safe.

With teenagers, we know they have their own opinions which may differ from their parents. We will take the time to discuss any fears or concerns and will provide background information on acupuncture so they feel informed and empowered about their own health.
